The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-TimeDirected by Adrian Rice and Ian Craig
What begins as the mystery of a neighbour’s dead dog becomes a journey of discovery in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, coming to Warrandyte Theatre Company this November.
Written by Simon Stephens and adapted from Mark Haddon’s acclaimed novel, this unique play follows Christopher, a teenage boy determined to solve two mysteries: who killed his neighbour’s dog, found on her garden lawn, and what really happened to his mum?
Encouraged by his teacher, Siobhan, to write his story, Christopher sets out to uncover the truth. However, navigating the world is not easy. He finds people confusing, dislikes being touched and finds crowds overwhelming. Certain colours upset him, and he refuses to eat brown or yellow foods. Red, however, is a favourite — and spotting several red cars in a row means he can look forward to a good day!
As Christopher’s investigation unfolds, the audience is drawn into his individual perspective on the world. With a talented cast of 10, including six actors who take on multiple roles, the production brings the story’s fast-paced narrative and ever-changing scenes to life.
At its heart, this is a moving story about family, trust, love and the importance of understanding and embracing difference. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is a remarkable theatrical experience — and one that Warrandyte Theatre Company is proud to bring to our stage.
