Northumbrian alt-folk alchemists The Brothers Gillespie (siblings James and Sam Gillespie) are still something of a secret on the UK music scene and yet they have a dedicated following all over the land. Their music, with its fluid fingerstyle guitar and the ‘glorious tones of their blood harmony’ (Sam Lee), is renowned for its rich lyricism, spiritual heart and radical edge.Their live performances are known for the ways they weave tales around the songs and invite audiences into the heart of the music.
This gig is part of a tour to launch for their eagerly awaited new release "Kingfisher", an album steeped in analogue warmth and defined by intimate and spontaneous performances, recorded mostly live in the studio with a cast of brilliant Scotland-based musicians.
“The Brothers Gillespie have won hearts with a combination of close vocal harmonies and songs carved from the rock, turf and skies of their homeland’ -The Guardian
Supports tonight are CREEPING JANE and JAMES EAGLE.
Creeping Jane are Nyge and Sue, who run the Goose and sing unaccompanied in unison and harmony.
James Eagle is an award-winning singer of powerful songs, sometimes but not always nautical in theme.
This concert will be half seated, half standing, so come early if you want to be sure of a seat!
Please be aware that whilst our events are held in The Ivy House's beautiful Grade 2 listed ballroom, this is a pub, so there may be some background noise from adjoining bars. We and the pub management have done our best to minimise this, however as this is a listed building there are restrictions on what kinds of soundproofing can be done. We hope you understand.
