About this Event

Following the first round of Brazil’s presidential elections, this panel brings together experts on Brazilian politics to assess the results and consider the implications for the decisive second round. The discussion will examine the patterns of voter behaviour revealed in the first-round vote, the factors likely to shape electoral dynamics in the run-off, and the policy consequences associated with each potential outcome. The panel will also explore the implications of the election for Brazil’s domestic agenda and its position in the international arena.

Speakers:

Oswaldo do Amaral is a Professor at the Department of Political Science and Associate Director of the Centre for the Study of Public Opinion at the University of Campinas (Unicamp), where he oversees projects on Brazilian voter preferences and behaviour. He is currently a research visitor at the Latin American Centre at the University of Oxford.

Daniel H. Alves is a political economist with academic appointments at King’s College London and the London School of Economics and Political Science. His research contributes to academic debates in the politics of public policy, particularly regarding inequality and development outcomes in Latin America.
