Ashia S. Ajani is a sunshower, a glass bead, a carnivorous plant, an overripe nectarine. Originally from Denver, CO, Queen City of the Plains and the unceded territory of the Ute, Cheyenne and Arapahoe peoples, Ajani's work explores Afro-diasporic counterinsurgencies through an ecological lens. Now living in the Bay Area on Muwekma Ohlone land, she is an doctoral student of sociology at UC Santa Cruz. Ajani is the author of one poetry collection, Heirloom (Write Bloody Publishing, 2026) and a nonfiction collection, Tending the Vines: Black Abundance in Eight Plants (Timber Press, 2026). Their writing is a kaleidoscope of praxis as an eco-griot and abolitionist.
