Book Group Session on Ragnar Jónasson and Katrín Jakobsdóttir’s Reykjavík: A Crime Story
Sunday, January 10, 2027, at 2:00 pm
University of Victoria, Clearihue A329
Facilitated by Annalee Lepp, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Victoria

As a special event to prepare us for the upcoming visit of Katrín Jakobsdóttir, we are hosting a book club session on the book Reykjavík: A Crime Story. The Richard and Margaret Beck Lecture Series will offer a free copy of the book to the first 20 people who sign up. To sign up for the book group session, please contact Helga Thorson ([email protected]). If you are not one of the first 20 people to sign up, you can still join us for the book group event, but you will need to secure your own copy of the book. (Please note that there are also copies of the book available through the Greater Victoria Public Library.) The first 20 people who sign up will need to pick up the book at one of the fall lectures; we are not able to mail it to you.
Annalee Lepp is the Dean of Humanities and Professor of Gender Studies at the University of Victoria. Dr. Lepp’s research focuses on human trafficking, transnational labour migration, and irregular border movements in the global and especially the Canadian context. She is a big fan and avid reader of crime fiction generally, including Icelandic crime fiction, and does not want to be viewed as an expert in the field.

The Richard and Margaret Beck Lectures on Icelandic Literature:
The Beck Lecture series at the University of Victoria focuses on various aspects of Icelandic literature and culture. Richard and Margaret Beck made provision in their wills for a special fund to be established at the University of Victoria to provide public lectures on Icelandic language and literature. Richard passed away on July 23, 1980, and Margaret on December 10, 1985. The first Richard and Margaret Beck Lecture on Icelandic Literature took place on February 14, 1988. Since then, the University of Victoria has hosted over 80 lectures on a wide range of topics.
