Once, an invading army from New England besieged Fort Nashwaak, fighting a battle right in what is now the middle of Fredericton. The memorable cast of defenders included a famous Acadian pirate, a mysterious woman from the woods, a band of frontiersmen, a celebrated Wolastoqey leader, and a brilliant young governor with a drinking problem…Backyard History's Andrew MacLean launches his new book with a reading of "The Battle of Fort Nashwaak" — a story pieced together from archival letters and diaries written by those on the ground during the siege, offering an unprecedented, panoramic view of life during the battle.
The story is one of 25 in his new fifth book, and this talk and Q&A is also its official launch: ‘Backyard History: Wartime Stories From The Maritimes.’
The evening marks a second launch, too — MacLean's first book in French, an all-new collection of Backyard History's greatest hits titled ‘Histoires de Chez Nous: Contes Oubliés du Nouveau-Brunswick.’ Both books will be available to buy and have signed. (The talk itself will be in English, though this particular story appears in the French collection.)
📗📕 Both books are arriving this October, you can pre-order at backyardhistory.ca/books
