The Adventure of Becoming
Stories of Grit, Resilience & Taking the Road Less Traveled
Every adventure starts with an idea.
Maybe it’s a trail you’ve always wanted to hike, a first backpacking trip, a solo adventure, or an outdoor dream that feels wildly out of reach. There’s the excitement, the nerves, the uncertainty—and the moment you decide to take that very first step.
But adventure isn’t just about where you go or what you do—it’s about who you become along the way.
Join Christine Reed, author of and host of the Outdoorsy Women podcast, and Tami Asars, author of six hiking guidebooks and , for an evening of honest stories about choosing a life of adventure.
What to Expect:
- Stories of real-life adventures and the moments they nearly fell apart.
- Honest conversations about success, failure, grit and resilience—including moments when the trail seemed determined to make them turn around.
- Hard-earned wisdom about taking a leap, finding your way, and discovering what you’re capable of.
- Inspiration to imagine your own adventure—from day hikes and multi-day trips to audacious expeditions.
- A moderated conversation with time for audience Q&A
You don't have to dream of climbing Everest or walking 2,000 miles. Adventure can start with a trail you've been too afraid to try, your first night in the backcountry, or finally saying yes to the thing you’ve been thinking about for years. Sometimes, the biggest adventure is simply finding the courage to begin.
Hear how Christine and Tami built lives and careers around adventure—and leave knowing it's possible for you too.
This event is part of Spoken Wild Series where we share stories from people who choose the road less traveled, pursue big adventures, and find out what they're capable of along the way.

About :
Kula Cloth is the first of its kind, intentionallly designed, antimicrobial pee cloth for anybody who squats when they pee. It's a Leave No Trace alternative to toilet paper for number one — and is made for the trail, the road, festivals and every wild place in between.
About the :
Since the pandemic, the Kula Academy has hosted nearly 700 classes and events. We’ve hiked sections of the PCT, summited volcanoes, paddled wild rivers, camped under starlit skies, painted, jumped into cold water for no good reason and danced — A LOT! Along the way, we’ve removed tons (literally) of garbage from the Mountain Loop Highway, planted deciduous and evergreen trees, and taught people how to leave the world a better place. It's a corner of the universe where adventure, creativity and stewardship collide!
Whether you’re here to learn how to find golden larches, master winter camping, learn “How Not to Die” doing the things you love, or simply because a pee cloth brought you our way, doesn’t matter. What matters is that you’re here! And we’re glad that our paths have crossed. We hope that you’ll join us on our adventures because you’re the missing ingredient in our trail mix. Come ready to laugh, learn, and leave with new friends and hopefully a deeper connection to others, yourself, and the world around us.
