About this Event

You're invited! What to expect: A laid-back vibe. Complimentary drinks. A unique, intimate film + music experience. Proceeds benefit Big Bend Conservation Alliance.
🥳 Meet and mingle with Texas film folks and catch an exclusive performance by Austin band Highway Lights! Join us as Austin’s newest narrative film division steps out with a screening party forThe End of Nowhere, a Texas-based true indie film. Plus, see what's next from .

In the 80 minutes that is The End of Nowhere, you travel with Ella - played by Texan actor and musician (known for The Good Doctor, Boyhood, and The Handmaid's Tale) - as she drives endlessly through the scenic, remote, high West Texas desert, in hopes she’ll witness the nocturnal optical phenomenon known as “the lights.” Estranged from her husband and searching for her lost daughter, Ella is on a mysteriously gripping, emotionally pure, and (ultimately) supernatural voyage of grief and healing. And it was all filmed in five days on a microbudget in Texas.

“It’s an experimental film where the story is non-linear and poetic. Hop in, and you’re along for an adventure.” -producer Melissa Kirkendall

For those fortunate enough to hop in one of the launch party’s 80 seats on October 24, the adventure includes complimentary beverages and an exclusive performance by , a duo the Austin Chronicle calls “stunning and transcendent.” The End of Nowhere’s original score was composed by one-half of the duo, Justin Sherburn (owner of Rocket Cinema and known for bands Montopolis and Okkervil River; award-winning cellist Sara Nelson makes up the other half).

So get tickets now, and get ready to celebrate the launch of Austin’s newest film brand, the official release of The End of Nowhere, and the abundance of the film’s Texas talent – many of whom will be there for the party (including Welch, the film’s star).

“Ultimately,” notes Kirkendall, “we want you to consider October 24 an engaging, welcoming, goodwill gathering for Texas filmmakers, art-house cinema enthusiasts, those who appreciate live music and storytelling, and anyone who loves and supports Big Bend.
