Terri Windling -Fantasy writer, editor, and folklorist Terri Windling will be joining us for the first time in Glastonbury. She will talk about why we need mythic, magical fiction and art today, more than ever. Followed by a Q & A.

BIO: Terri Windling is a writer, editor, artist, folklorist, and life-long wanderer of mythic woods. She has published over forty books, receiving ten World Fantasy Awards (including the Life Achievement Award in 2022), the Mythopoeic Award (for her novel The Wood Wife), the Bram Stoker Award, and the SFWA Solstice Award for "outstanding contributions to the speculative fiction field". She's been shortlisted twice for the Shirley Jackson Award, and once for the Tiptree Award (for The Armless Maiden).
Terri has edited fantasy fiction for over forty years, working with many of the major writers in the field and co-creating such book publications as the Fairy Tales series of novels and the Bordertownurban fantasy series. She has published numerous short story anthologies, often in partnership with Ellen Datlow -- including sixteen volumes in The Year’s Best Fantasy & Horror series, six volumes in the Snow White, Blood Red series of adult fairy tales, and four volumes of mythic fiction for YA readers: The Green Man, The Faery Reel, The Coyote Road, The Beastly Bride. Her latestanthology, Fairy Tales for Grown-ups, is forthcoming from the British Library in March, 2027.
She has written fantasy for adult readers (including The Wood Wife, The Color of Angels, and herforthcoming novel, The Moon Wife), for YA readers (published in the Bordertown series), and for children (including A Midsummer's Night's Faery Tale, The Winter Child, and The Faeries of Spring Cottage with Wendy Froud). She also writes nonfiction on folklore, fairy tales, and fantasy literature, and has collaborated on other faery books with Brian and Wendy Froud (including Good Faeries/Bad Faeries and Brian Froud's Green Women).
Terri delivered the fourth annual Tolkien Lecture on Fantasy Literature at Oxford University (2016), participated in the year-long Modern Fairies folk music & arts project (Oxford and Sheffield Universities, 2018-2019), and has been involved with The Centre for Fantasy and the Fantastic at the University of Glasgow since its founding in 2020. She worked on the British Library's big fantasy exhibition, Realms of Imagination (2023 - 2024); was a Guest of Honour at the 82nd World SF Convention in Glasgow (2024), and serves on the Advisory Board for Wonder Tales, a new academic press for fairy tales studies, alongside Marina Warner, Jack Zipes, and other notable scholars in the field.
Born in the U.S, Terri lived in New York City, Boston, and the Arizona desert before settling on Dartmoor with her British husband Howard Gayton, a dramatist and puppeteer. Working from a studio by the woods, Terri writes, edits, paints, and continues to share her love of fantasy and folklore in a variety of ways. "I believe in the power of fantasy," she says, "the magic of language, the enduring wonder of folklore and myth, the importance of the wild and more-than-human world, and the value of community. I especially treasure the vibrant community I've found in the mythic arts field."
