Artist Statement
Jackie Gorring -
My prints , sculpture and textile work are focusing on the ordinary, because the ordinary can be extraordinary sometimes.
I often see things sideways . Remaining open to experiences , means I am open to the life that is around me.
For example-
“Bodhi gets news” -it occurred to me that the image of my dog and me on the lounge with ABC news (telling the news item of bears ) was a very funny image .
Or “lemon tree discussion” tells of two loved ones, both gone from the world , and the importance of a beloved lemon tree , requiring much serious discussion while smoking cigarettes.
I observe my surroundings , people, rituals, text ,animals and plants, landscape .
And when all these things ferment and burst out into my work, I feel grateful, strong and excited about life .
Artist Statement
Jill Orr
Tender is a good description of my relationship with Jackie. We have been through the toughest and many of the best years together. We share a lot of stories. As old artists it’s great we’re there to support each other.
In that sense I like to hold onto the title “Tender” reminding me of the little boat that carries people from the land to the bigger boat. A little chugalug vessel that put puts between the bigger boats, gently nudging them out of the way to get to the destination.
Between us Jackie and I have a wealth of artistic experience, and we know a lot of stuff. We can laugh at the brazen and brash...nudge them out of the way BUT get on. Get to our destination with tender love.
