This Friday, we're closing our doors to the everyday and opening them to something different: a night where cinema, wine, and real Italian food come together in the way they were always meant to — slowly, intimately, and without distraction.
About the film
Released in 1971, Il Decameron is Pasolini's vivid, unfiltered adaptation of Giovanni Boccaccio's 14th-century masterpiece. Rather than a single narrative, the film weaves together several of Boccaccio's most memorable tales — stories of love and lust, cunning and comeuppance, faith and folly — all set against the sun-drenched streets, markets, and courtyards of medieval Naples.
Pasolini doesn't sanitize the material. He embraces its earthiness, its humor, and its raw humanity, populating the screen with ordinary faces rather than polished stars. The result is a film that feels less like a period piece and more like a window into real life — messy, funny, sensual, and deeply alive. It went on to win the Grand Prix Special Jury Prize at the Berlin Film Festival, cementing its place as one of the most influential and daring works of 20th-century Italian cinema.
