About this Event
You paid your taxes. Did anyone ever explain them to you?
Most people file a return, save the PDF, and never hear what it actually says.
This evening is the opposite of that. Three hours, plain language, and real
answers to the questions you have never gotten a straight response to.
Bring last year's tax return
Here is the part people tell us they came for. Bring last year's return, on
paper or on your phone.
We are putting a real tax return up on the screen and walking through it line by
line. What each section is telling you, which numbers actually move, and where
the opportunities usually hide. If someone in the room wants to volunteer their
own, even better.
You follow along on your own copy. By the end you will be able to read the thing
you sign every year.
Free to attend and there is nothing to sign up for.
What we cover
How different types of income are taxed. Two people can earn the same amount
and keep very different portions of it. What you earn matters, and how you earn
it matters just as much.
Deductions that hold up, and common ones that do not. The difference between a
deduction that survives scrutiny and one that creates a problem later.
When an S corp makes sense, and when it does not. It is not a yes or no
question, and the wrong answer costs money in both directions.
The 20 percent business deduction. Who qualifies, and where the extra rules
start.
Retirement strategies for business owners. The 2026 limits and which options
actually fit a small business.
The 2026 contractor and 1099 rules. The reporting threshold changed this year,
and it affects anyone who pays contractors.
What to consider before December 31. April is when you file. Right now is when
you can still change the number.
Who this is for
Business owners. 1099 professionals. Trades. Medical practices. Real estate and
insurance agents. Anyone with a side business. If you have ever looked at your
tax bill and wondered whether it had to be that high, this is for you.
Everyone is welcome and there is no cost to attend.
What to bring
Last year's tax return, if you have it handy. A paper copy or your phone both
work. If you do not have it, come anyway. Most of the evening is the teaching
part.
Bring your questions too. The parts people ask about are the parts we spend the
most time on.
Hosted by Project Cowork. Presented by Elevated Tax Strategies, a San Antonio
