About this Event

Talking Threads, Dancing Weave
Abdi Karya (Indonesia)

Embodying Live at Eaton’s focus on workshop as performance, Abdi Karya presents an interactive ritual centered on the traditional sarung. Working directly alongside domestic workers and audience members, Karya transforms everyday textile manipulation and shared physical tasks into a collective inquiry into migration, labor, indigenous knowledge, and cultural identity.

*The session on November 28 will be followed by a post-performance dialogue with the artist, conducted in English.

Presented by Eaton HK, Live at Eaton is a new contemporary performance festival expanding the boundaries of performance in Hong Kong. Beyond mainstream theatre and dance, it treats performance as a tool for knowledge production and community building—merging choreography, materiality, research, lived experience, and identity.

Festival Theme: Daily Practice: Staging Self, Objects, and Others

Initiated by co-directors Tang Fukuen and Joseph Chen, the inaugural edition examines the labor, habits, and rituals of daily life as performative acts. It explores how repetitive actions shape selfhood, body-material relations, and social conditions. This edition proposes an experimental "workshop performance" format, blending interactive education with live art where collective learning becomes a creative, critical, and communal experience.

Dates: 28 November – 6 December 2026
Venue: Various spaces across Eaton HK
Program Partners: Hong Kong Ballet, Hong Kong Dance Exchange
Participating Artists: Abdi Karya, Alysa Leung & UKA, Aurelio Di Virgilio, Ea Torrado, Élie Autin, Holmes Cheung & Cam Wong, Jeffrey J C Lim, Kornkarn Rungsawang, Leila Mcmillian, Razan Wirjosandjojo , Tony Tran, Wiangthong Wilawan, Students from Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts
