Join us as art historian and comedian Verity Babbs leads us through some of art history's funniest bits: artists stabbing, shagging, and slagging each other off included. Sharing stories from her book The History of Art in One Sentence (Bloomsbury, 2025) - Verity takes us on a journey of 500 years of artists behaving badly, jaw-dropping artworks, and manifestos that'll make you say 'oh my!'.
Come and celebrate the power of laughing at art, and leave seeing some of your favourite artists in a whole new light.
What to expect:
Included in the evening is the opportunity to visit our Small Wonders: Reimagining British Art exhibition from 6.30pm while Verity Babb's comedic perspective of the history of will begin from approx 7pm.
Includes entry to the exhibition from 6.30pm and a drink on arrival (wine or orange juice). The talk takes place from 7pm - 8pm.

Who is your speaker:
Verity Babbs is an art historian, comedian and presenter whose work focuses on making art history more accessible and bringing laughter into cultural spaces. Verity is the founder of Art Laughs live art-themed comedy events which frequently perform at the National Gallery. Verity graduated with a History of Art Degree from the University of Oxford and was named one of BBC History Extra's '30 Under 30' in 2024. Verity is the author of ‘The History of Art in One Sentence’ which was published by Bloomsbury in 2025.
