Join us on North Acton Square for a talk and walking tour led by author and botanist Roy Vickery, on the uses and folklore associated with canalside and urban plants. These events accompany our open air exhibition , taking place in North Acton Square. The exhibition features prints and poetry depicting plants that can be found along London's canals and exploring our relationship with urban nature.
11:30-12:00: A Canalside Flora: Roy will talk about the plants that are depicted in the exhibition with a focus on the historical uses of canalside plants.
13:00 - 13:45: Pavement Plants: Our Green Neighbours: Join Roy on a guided walk of the neighbourhood, looking at the plants you perhaps never thought to notice.

We are thrilled to have Roy Vickery leading these events which will be a fascinating insight into folk history relating to canalside and urban plants. Roy worked as a botanist at the Natural History Museum, London, from 1965-2007 and remains a Scientific Associate at the Museum. He has been collecting and writing about the folklore and traditional uses of plants for many years. He has served as chairman of Meetings Committee the Botanical Society of the British Isles (now Botanical Society of Britain & Ireland), and as a vice-president of the Society, has served on the committee of both the Folklore Society and the Society for Folk Life Studies, and is a former President of the South London Botanical Institute.
