About this Event
Join author and writer Steve Fielding for a one hour fully illustrated talk covering a period from late Victorian era to the swinging 60s. The talk will first look at the reasons why public executions were outlawed and at the hangmen who refined the process over the decades. We will look at some Victorian M**der cases aimed at the local area as well as one or two famous cases from the era. We will then look at the Lancashire hangmen in the 20th century and some of their notorious cases again with a local feel, taking us through to abolition in the 1960s and calls for reintroduction in more recent times. After the talk, enjoy a chippy lunch from The Chippery along with a brew and good company within the library.
