Explore education and job options with local experts, get your questions answered and connect with organizations at a resource fair.
About this Event

If you don’t have a high school diploma, finding a better opportunity or returning to school can feel overwhelming. Where do you begin? What programs fit around work and family responsibilities? Can you start career training before earning a high school diploma or GED?

Join The Beacon and local education and workforce organizations for a free, practical event designed to help you find a realistic next step. Please note note that Literacy KC is participating as a partner, with The Beacon as the main host and contact.

About 30,000 Kansas City adults do not have a high school diploma or equivalent according to a tip submission to The Beacon from Literacy KC. This event will connect attendees with organizations offering high school equivalency programs, career training, employment support and “earn while you learn” opportunities.

Why should I attend?

You’ll hear briefly from local experts about education and employment pathways, get answers to common questions and meet directly with organizations at a resource fair.

You’ll leave with:

  • A clearer idea of which pathway fits your current situation.
  • At least one organization that can help you move forward.
  • One practical action you can take within the next week.
  • Information about training, credentials and job opportunities available now.

Who should attend?

This event is for KC area adults who:

  • Do not have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Want to earn a credential or build new skills.
  • Are looking for work or hoping to earn more.
  • Need options that accommodate work, child care or family responsibilities.
  • Have had difficult or discouraging experiences with school.
  • Want straightforward guidance about where to begin.

You do not need to have everything figured out before attending. Come with your questions, meet people who can help and explore options that work for your life.

Light food and refreshments will be provided. The event is free, but registration is encouraged.

Your next step doesn’t have to be a big one. Let’s help you find it.
