Interrupt a Fall, 1:30 to 2:30pm
This class goes beyond fall prevention in that it teaches how many falls can be successfully interrupted through specific vision and reflex training in order to improve reaction time. Improving reaction time is something that will have numerous benefits outside of fall situations.
Building Power to Prevent Pain, 2:30 to 3:30pm
Many fall-related injuries are caused by an inability to accelerate and decelerate with the appropriate amount of force needed to avoid a broken bone and/or a torn muscle. This inability is largely due to the fact that many adults stop moving powerfully and explosively.
It's a well-known statistic that adults over 50, lose 2 – 5% of their strength annually. But, for the same adults, the loss of power annually is roughly double that. In many circumstances, this is the biggest culprit in fall-related injuries. Unfortunately, very few adults are offered power training in the senior fitness domain, and even younger adults haven’t been trained in this area properly. This class fills that gap and is, therefore, a great addition to your strength training and longevity regimen.
