About this Event
What do students think they need before starting an industry placement?
What do employers expect them to arrive with?
And, perhaps most importantly, what do both discover once the placement actually begins?
We are bringing together our existing T Level placement employers, students who have experienced placements first-hand, our next cohort of students and businesses interested in becoming future placement providers for an interactive workshop focused on answering exactly these questions.
This will be an opportunity for honest conversations about workplace readiness, looking at the skills students arrive with, the skills employers value and the areas that only become apparent once a young person steps into a real working environment.
For us as educators, these conversations are incredibly valuable. They allow our staff to hear directly from employers and students and identify where we can do more to prepare young people before they begin their placement, whether that is confidence, communication, professional behaviours, initiative, technical understanding or simply knowing what to expect from the workplace.
But the event is also about building relationships.
Our next cohort will have the chance to meet and network with employers ahead of applying for placements next year, while businesses considering joining our T Level programme can speak openly with employers who are already hosting students, ask questions, share experiences and learn about the approaches that have worked in practice.
Ultimately, we want to create a conversation in which everyone learns from everyone else.
Students bring the experience of being new to the workplace.
Employers bring the reality of what their industries need.
Our staff can then use both perspectives to make sure that what we teach and how we prepare our students genuinely bridges the gap between education and employment.
