Celebrate art, community, and everyday life at Super Sábado: Memories of My Neighborhood, a free, all-ages afternoon inspired by El Museo’s current exhibitions.
Throughout the day, families and visitors are invited to explore the groundbreaking photography of Sophie Rivera, whose work captures Nuyorican visual culture through portraits, documentary images, experimental self-portraits, and photographs of New York City’s subway and graffiti scenes from the late 1970s. Guided gallery experiences, hands-on art-making, movement workshops, and storytelling sessions encourage participants to reflect on culture, identity, and their own barrios.
At 5:00 PM, continue the celebration in El Teatro with a free live performance presented in partnership with Belongó. For this special collaboration, the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra features new compositions by Arturo O’Farrill, never-before-heard orchestrations of works by Chico O’Farrill, and dynamic arrangements that fuse Afro Latin rhythm with the emotional depth of strings.
