Information
In the southern town during the Civil Rights era, Lyle Britten, a white storeowner, murders Richard Henry, a young Black man who has recently returned home after living in the North. The play follows the aftermath of Richards M**der, including the investigation, community tensions, and Lyles trial. Baldwin explores what happens when the M**der of a Black man forces an entire community to confront the machinery of racism, the limits of nonviolence, and the question of what justice actually looks like in a society built on racial inequality. This production is supported in part by The Black Seed, a national project funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, in partnership with The Billie Holiday Theatre, New York, New York. Professional Stage Reading directed by AKIN BABATUNDE. Produced by CURTIS KING.
