Summer Plant-Based Cooking Workshop
Summer is a time when you actually get to eat the rainbow! With so many seasonal veggies to choose from, brightening up your plate should be simple! However, if you are in need of some fresh inspiration, then this summer plant based cooking workshop is for you!
During this relaxed, hands-on workshop, you will learn how to create tasty, fresh dishes, using a variety of nourishing plant-based ingredients and have the opportunity to connect with fellow foodies. The session is designed to support you creating wholesome, nutritious meals that are not only good for you but taste great too, and you'll also be supporting your local community.
Whether you are 100% plant-based or wish to add more plant-based foods to your plate, we’ve got you covered! This 2.5-hour workshop will cover some of the basics of plant-based cooking and nutrition. By the end of it, you will have learnt how to prepare a variety of dishes from scratch.
Example dishes to be made during the class:
- Creamy Baba Ghanoush
- Summer salad elevated with roasted seasonal veggies and lentils for extra protein
- 'Melt in your mouth' spring onion fritters
- Quick-pickled fennel
- Beetroot Brownie (gluten and refined sugar-free)
This workshop is suitable for all levels, as you are guided through the cooking process step by step, so no prior experience is needed. Spaces are limited, so book early to secure your spot!
All profits will support the work of local voluntary group Friends of Upper Norwood Rec, helping to nurture and improve this green gem for the benefit of the whole community. We’re also delighted to be supporting Rockmount Primary School by using their excellent Learning Kitchen - a fantastic space for cooking, learning and bringing people together.
- At this workshop, we will be cooking in pairs at shared workstations. You’re very welcome to come solo and we’ll match you with someone on the day, or book with a friend for a lovely shared experience.
- The class will be a mixture of cooking and demos, participants will receive a recipe booklet for all recipes to enable you to recreate the dishes at home.
- All recipes will be gluten and nut-free but we cannot guarantee a gluten or nut free kitchen due to the space being used by others.

About Friends of Upper Norwood Rec:
Friends of the Rec was set up as a community group in October 2022 by a group of local volunteers who felt it was important to protect and nurture this beautiful parkland and leisure space which is loved by so many but had become neglected in recent years.
Since then Friends of the Rec has achieved many great things including planting over 750 young trees, 2,250 bulbs, and various shrubs at monthly community volunteer days and team sessions. Not to mention keeping the park free of litter! The group has also run two community pond digging days and have put up many bird and bat boxes decorated by locals. Residents have been supported to buy four benches and the latest addition is a big picnic table for eight people! New football goal posts are coming soon, and the aim is to continue making improvements to this wonderful space.
