Subterranea Britannica - Spring Meeting

There will be the usual mix of interesting illustrated talks along with Members’ Contributions and a chance to meet and mingle with fellow enthusiasts.

Speakers currently lined up are:

• Athena Kerins from Berliner Unterwelten, an expert on the Berlin Wall, escape tunnels and Berlin bunkers, currently leading the restoration project on the Diplomatic bunker / air raid shelter at the Adlon hotel. Athena is an internationally recognised expert on the Berlin escape tunnels of the Cold War and will be speaking on the background and details of Tunnel 57 and other escape tunnels under the Wall. Athena will be travelling from Berlin to speak at the Spring Meeting.
• Joanne McFall is an expert writer and presenter from South East Ireland, currently finishing a PhD in Creative Writing. A specialist in faery folklore, Joanne is creating a talk especially for Subbrit on the underground locations and folklore of sacred sites in Britain and Ireland. Some of the most important features of sacred sites in ancient Celtic folklore of Great Britain and Ireland will be considered, alongside sites from contrasting areas of landscape ranging from groves, hills and mounds to settlements, enclosures and ring forts. The talk will include aspects of Celtic folk and faery lore connected to each part. Sacred sites, such as caves, chambers and cairns associated with the Celtic underground will also be discussed.

Any changes to the line-up will be advised via the website and the Programme will be published on the website nearer the time.

Food & Drink: Refreshments will be provided including morning and afternoon tea/coffee and a buffet lunch (included in the ticket).

Canada Water Theatre is conveniently located 2 minutes walk from Canada Water Station (Tube: Jubiliee Line & Overground: Windrush Line) and has good bus connections as well.

The Spring Meeting is open to members & friends/relatives; members only may vote at the AGM
