Dip a toe into the world of storytelling!Special workshop for ages 10-Adult: enjoy an introduction to the tales and the skills that make up storytelling, the oldest theatrical art!
Drama teacher Enid Davis will kick things off by sharing a tale, and then we’ll get into the background and importance of storytelling, and help you build the tools to feel more comfortable sharing stories, yourself! No experience necessary—just join us and have fun!
About the presenter:
Enid Davis tells us she was born in Brooklyn with a book in her hand. While majoring in English Literature in college, she decided to go to graduate school to become a public librarian. Enid changed to children's work after quickly realizing that kids were more fun to interact with. She worked for the Santa Clara County Library District for 18 years then switched to The Harker School, a private school in San Jose for another 18 years. Storytelling was always one of her favorite activities, but she also enjoyed studying the psychological, political, and literary forces behind these tales. Currently, Enid teaches at the drama program she created at Avenidas, the Palo Alto senior center. She writes, directs, and teaches The Wise Owl Players how to put on dramatic readings at local theaters. Enid lives in Palo Alto with her prince.

About Storytelling:
Storytelling is telling stories--without using a book.
- It's an ancient art form that predates libraries, and books, and writing.
- It's not necessarily for children!
- Traditional-style storytelling creates unique images in the mind of each listener.
- According to the National Storytelling Network, "storytelling is the interactive art of using words and actions to reveal the elements and images of a story while encouraging the listener’s imagination. In storytelling, the listener imagines the story.”
- According to the Storytelling Association of California (an organization dedicated to promoting storytelling as a living art form), storytelling is “orally passing on adventures, wisdom, experiences, surprise, history, laughter, beliefs and imagination.”
