About this Event
Storytelling with Confidence: A Six-Week Speaker Course
You have an idea, experience or story worth sharing. This practical six-week course will help you shape it into a talk, find a way of telling it that feels right for you, and build the confidence to speak in front of others.
Bring your own idea. It could be a personal story, a project you care about, something you’ve learned, or a subject you want to speak about. You’ll work on it throughout the course, with supportive guidance and time to practise.
We’ll explore different storytelling techniques, including how to find the heart of a story, structure it for an audience and make it memorable. You’ll also try simple anchoring techniques to help you manage nerves and feel more grounded when you speak.
By the end of the course, you’ll have developed and practised a short talk, learned how to find and approach speaking opportunities, and prepared a speaker sheet to introduce yourself and your work.
Across the six weeks we will cover:
Week 1 Mon 16th Nov: Find your story
Bring an idea, experience or topic you want to share. Explore what matters to you and what might connect with an audience.
Week 2 Mon 23rd Nov: Shape the story
Try different ways to structure a story or talk, and identify the key message you want people to remember.
Week 3 Mon 30th Nov: Make it engaging
Explore storytelling techniques, voice, detail and audience connection. Experiment with approaches that suit your subject and personality.
Week 4 Mon 7th Dec: Speak with confidence
Practise presenting in a supportive space. Try practical anchoring techniques to help you settle, focus and recover your place if nerves arise.
Week 5 Mon 11th Jan: Find speaking opportunities
Learn about the speaker circuit: where talks and speaking opportunities happen, how to identify a good fit, and how to introduce your idea to organisers.
Week 6 Mon 18th Jan: Prepare your speaker sheet
Bring your talk together, practise sharing it, and create a speaker sheet with your bio, talk details and contact information.
This is a learning-by-doing course. You don’t need previous speaking experience or a polished idea. You just need something you’d like to share and a willingness to give it a go.
Edventure brings people together to turn ideas into action. This course offers a welcoming space to develop your voice, learn from others and take the next step towards sharing your story.
