Stormlight: Contemporary Voices — Light and ShadowStormlight brings composers, performers and musical collaborators together in a unique exploration of light, shadow, memory and transformation.
The programme includes dramatic scenes from Lady Macbeth by Thomas Pasatieri, performed by soprano Samanta Lestavel and directed by composer Tristan Entwistle, alongside Entwistle's own Shakespeare-inspired Much Ado About Nothing, in which he also performs. Pianist Bradley Gilchrist leads David Tunley's enchanting Wedding Masque, while soprano Leah Thomas, pianist Claire Race and flautist Christine Draeger collaborate in the luminous sound world of Kaija Saariaho.
Bass-baritone Michael Lampard directs performances of his own cantata At the Harbour's Edge, while soprano Maria Hemphill presents songs by her father, continuing a musical legacy first shared with audiences in Hobart.
More than a concert, Stormlight is a gathering of artists interpreting, performing and shaping the music they know most intimately.
