Art Reach of Mid Michigan is hosting “Birds Doing Stuff: The Splendor Next Door,” a gallery exhibition featuring the photography of Michigan photojournalist Steve Jessmore from October 1-30, 2026, in The Morey Family Gallery at Art Reach, 111 E. Broadway in downtown Mt. Pleasant.Drawing on more than three decades of photojournalism experience, Jessmore focuses on bird behavior and the freshwater habitats that surround us. His approach, which he calls “Birds Doing Stuff,” captures birds as active participants in their environments through patience, close observation, and repeated visits to familiar places.
Photographed throughout Michigan, including Reeds Lake, the Torch River, and Great Lakes shorelines, Jessmore’s work invites viewers to slow down and discover the extraordinary within the everyday. His photography has been published by National Audubon, Michigan Audubon, Ducks Unlimited, and Smithsonian Magazine and has received multiple National Audubon Photography Awards.
A closing reception will be held from 6-7:30 pm Friday, October 30, in The Morey Family Gallery at Art Reach. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.
