About this Event
DJ Sydney hosts Status Set live on
Ahead of the release of their first album, New York-based art outfit Status Set have played a slew of electric shows across the city. To see them live is a contract in tracing the similarities of classic British punk and art rock of the 70s to the contemporary through-lines of the American underground; a process of disassembling and reassembling the sounds of yesterday, today, and tomorrow. To see them live is to confirm them as students of history.
And, if history, as Roberto Bolaño tells us, is but a "proliferation of instants, brief interludes that vie with one another with monstrousness,” one must interlude with a group that revels in the maelstrom. Whether it’s Ian Rose’s cutting lyricism, Rose Vastola and Anders Newgard’s smart rhythmic foundation, or Ian Burns’ effortless guitar-playing, Status Set is primed to no longer be New York’s best-kept secret. To every other band, I merely say: Good luck.
