We are urging to avoid speaking about climate change and stick to technical concerns that will be most effective with our County Commissioners.
The 1,320 ft setback:
-Reduces the land available in Mesa County for community solar gardens by at least 56% and by 75% in a Grand Valley study area
-Is larger than the setback for oil and gas facilities (400 ft), mining, (125 ft), gravel crushers (250 ft), and other uses that are far more intensive and disruptive than a community solar garden
-Was proposed based on a false assumption about solar decreasing property values
-Restricts agrivoltaics at a time when farms face financial insecurity and seek to diversify their income with solar
-Restricts solar despite a clear need for energy diversification and localized production
