Denver is one of the most fertile music cities in the country and Sqwerv is further testament to that fact. A young band conjuring an alchemy of classic, psychedelic and indie rock is commonplace these days. However, there’s something about the soulfulness and detail-oriented, organic flow of this quartet that is refreshingly original and exciting. Sqwerv realize the importance of well-crafted songwriting steering the ship along with shimmering four-part harmonies. This is where it all begins before plunging down the improvisational rabbit hole. They are fiercely driven to get to those transcendent, spontaneous spaces that all jam music lovers crave. Sqwerv continue to tantalize their audiences through groove counterpoint, polyrhythms and risk-taking. They are relentlessly funky with many jams opening up into trance-inducing soundscapes that patiently simmer before boiling over the brim. They have seized the moment when opening for acts such as George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Eggy, Big Something, Spafford and many more. Their shows are all available on the prestigious Nugs app, which has been key in the gospel of Sqwerv reaching the masses.
Exhibiting a deft balance between dark soundscapes and beautiful explorations, they are heightening their ability to stir audiences both instrumentally and lyrically. In addition to their ever-growing catalog of original music, their cover selection is gangbusters. This includes Grateful Dead, Phish, Pink Floyd, Talking Heads, blues, soul and deep-cut radio classics. Their signature mash-ups have become a mindblowing calling card. They made a dazzling impression in their Crazy Horse debut back in January and it will be thrilling to witness their exponential evolution since then.
