Who needs the Mississippi River?
You are invited to help create a mississippi river tribute - a floating raft of committments, thank yous and what have yous. Learn something about endangered mussels of the Mississippi and make a water committment !
This activity will take place after the reading of 187 poems submitted to Public Art St. Paul for the always amazing Sidewalk Poetry contest! This year all the poems are in the theme of water/ Mississippi and are being read as part of Public Arts Saint Paul's triennial River festival WAKPA. Reservations are not required but help me to plan for supplies.
I will provide all the materials including calcium castings of river creatures, ancient, current and critically endangered. You can paint, write a water committment, and cast onto the river, or take home as my gift to you. The floating will take place around 3:30 pm.
We will send our raft out briefly as even though it is biodegradable, this is not the right location for sending it off. It will serve as a collective symbol of floating, dreaming, adventuring and saving ourselves and the river - a version of a Hindu Arthi, offering to the River Goddess.

Artist Gita Ghei is a fiscal year 2026 recipient of a Creative Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
