Join us for Saturday afternoon’s edition of spIN Focus as we drop the needle on Paul McCartney’s raw, handmade 1970 solo debut, McCartney.Recorded in absolute secrecy at his London home and EMI’s Abbey Road Studios, McCartney marked a dramatic departure from the lush, expansive soundscapes of late-era Beatles. Armed with a four-track recorder, playing every instrument himself, and joined only by Linda on backing vocals, McCartney crafted an intimate, rustic collection of home-spun melodies that inadvertently laid the blueprint for modern lo-fi and bedroom pop.
We’ll open the hour with a brief introduction setting the context—exploring the quiet turmoil surrounding the Beatles’ breakup, the secretive DIY recording sessions, and how this unassuming record sparked a whole new chapter for one of pop's greatest songwriters. Then, we turn the floor over to a full, uninterrupted spin of the record, letting our high-end system bring out every acoustic strum, warm bassline, and vocal nuance on classic tracks like "Every Night," "Junk," and "Maybe I'm Amazed."
Drop in, grab an afternoon drink, and experience a DIY classic in pristine analog clarity! Doors open at 6:30 PM | Intro & Listen at 7:00 PM.
