Southwestern University 560 Groundbreaking Ceremony Scheduled for Friday, Oct. 23

Southwestern University and the City of Georgetown invite the media to join the celebration of an important milestone on this transformative project.

Southwestern University and the City of Georgetown are hosting a groundbreaking ceremony to commemorate the start of construction for the transformative Southwestern University 560 development and the City of Georgetown Customer Service Center. Media are invited to attend the groundbreaking ceremony.

9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23

Southwestern University 560 Site

Leaders from Southwestern University, the City of Georgetown, and SU 560 construction partners will provide remarks prior to the official groundbreaking for the project. Speakers will include:

  • Laura Skandera Trombley, President, Southwestern University
  • Chris Cragg, Chair, Southwestern University Board of Trustees
  • Scott McLean, Dean of Faculty, Southwestern University
  • Josh Schroeder, Mayor, City of Georgetown
  • Briant Harkiewicz, Principal, Marmon Mok
  • Alison Satt, Vice President, Swinerton
  • Valerie Covey, Commissioner, Williamson County

Speakers will also be available for one-on-one interviews following the ceremony.

Complimentary breakfast tacos from El Hombre Tacos, donuts from Little Lucy’s, and coffee from The Rush Coffee will be available to all guests. The event will take place outdoors on an active development site. Comfortable, closed-toe shoes are recommended.

In June, the City of Georgetown became Southwestern University 560’s first tenant with the announcement of a new customer service center that will be built within the development. The 75,000-square-foot customer service center will house over 300 employees across a variety of resident-facing City departments and services, including askGTX, Billing, Economic Development, Planning, Permits & Inspections, and Utility Customer Service, among others. The space is also designed to include 5,000 square feet of ground-floor retail.

By bringing key municipal services into the heart of the development, the facility will provide convenient access for residents while contributing to the vibrant mix of uses envisioned for SU 560.

The groundbreaking ceremony marks the beginning of construction on the first phase of the Southwestern University 560 development. Encompassing 67 acres, the first phase will create an active, walkable district with a strong sense of place and a diverse mix of uses. Planned features include 110,000 square feet of office and research space, 45,000 square feet of retail, 150 multifamily homes, a 110,000-square-foot hotel and conference center, a 38,000-square-foot entertainment venue, and 35 acres of parks and open space.
