About the Event:Join us at the Peel Centenary Centre for an extraordinary evening of authentic Brazilian music as legendary samba and choro guitarist Rogério Souza takes the stage as part of his 2026 European tour.
Performing as an intimate guitar duo alongside acclaimed Hamburg guitarist Nikolai Voigt, Rogério brings the warm, infectious rhythms and roots energy of Rio de Janeiro straight to the Isle of Man. The evening will also feature guest appearances on stage by local Isle of Man trio Bossa das Ondas.
The performance will include a special homage to the legendary composer Tom Jobim - the artist who introduced bossa nova to the world with timeless classics like The Girl from Ipanema, Desafinado, Wave, and Corcovado (Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars). Rogério holds a uniquely direct, authentic connection to this music, and it'll be a remarkable opportunity to hear it.
About the Artists:
Rogério Souza: A deeply respected ambassador of choro, bossa nova, and samba. Over a celebrated career spanning several decades, Rogério has recorded and performed with Brazil's greatest musical icons, including Baden Powell, Paulinho da Viola, Sivuca, João Bosco, and Elza Soares. He is a member of the seminal instrumental groups Nó em Pingo d'Água and Época de Ouro, co-editor of the Songbook Choro, and regularly tours internationally across Europe, the US, and Asia.
Nikolai Voigt: A Hamburg-based classical and Brazilian choro specialist. Nikolai’s work bridges classical music with South American popular traditions. Having spent extended periods studying in Brazil and Uruguay, he performs regularly with ensembles including Duo Tucumã and Projeto Mistura e Manda.
