About this Event
machinaloci space is pleased to host Sounding the Archive: The Songs We Carry, a free public workshop led by artist in residence Ilènia Cipollari.
Songs travel. They cross seas with the people who sing them, survive in kitchens and churches, and wait in archives to be heard again. Following its performances at Conway Hall for Bloomsbury Festival, Sounding the Archive opens its process to the public in a workshop led by Ilènia Cipollari Ganucci.
Together we will learn short songs from the show's repertoire, singing in parts by ear, and hear the stories of how they travelled. Then we turn to our own archives. Bring something that holds a piece of your history: a letter, a photograph, a recipe, a song someone once sang to you. Starting from Emily Penrose's 1887 diary, we will explore how these traces can be given voice, and shape them into sound together.
Open to everyone, with no singing experience or music reading required.
