Sound + ScienceExperience First. Understand Second.
Sound + Science is a twice-monthly experiential education series from Melodic Healings that brings together immersive sound, nervous-system awareness and thoughtful conversation about the ways sound may influence human experience.
The format is intentionally different.
Rather than beginning with an explanation of what participants are supposed to feel, each gathering begins with the experience itself.
Martina Fenech leads participants through an immersive sound session using intentionally layered tones, resonance and therapeutic instruments within a supportive environment designed for rest, awareness and nervous-system regulation.
Only afterward do we begin asking why.
Following the sound experience, guest educator Ralph Morgan MD guides an accessible educational discussion exploring the science, psychology and human experience surrounding sound, stress, perception, environment and behavior.
The intention is not to tell participants what they experienced.
It is to provide information that may help them better understand their own experience.
What We Explore
Topics may include:
• Sound, attention and perception
• The nervous system and states of rest or alertness
• Stress and environmental input
• Psychological responses to sound
• Rhythm, repetition and sensory processing
• How everyday environments affect the way we feel
• The relationship between awareness, behavior and quality of life
• Why different people may respond differently to the same sound
• The difference between subjective experience and measurable physiological response
Each gathering includes an immersive sound experience, educational discussion and time for questions.
Future classes within the series will expand into additional topics related to sound, human behavior, stress, sensory experience and well-being.
The Experience
Participants are encouraged to arrive without trying to achieve a particular state.
There is nothing to perform and nothing you are required to feel.
You may experience deep relaxation, heightened awareness, emotional response, physical sensations, wandering thoughts or simply the opportunity to rest.
Every nervous system is different.
The educational portion following the session gives participants an opportunity to become curious about those differences rather than assigning a single meaning to them.
About Martina
Martina Fenech is the founder of Melodic Healings and an Integrative Sound & Somatic Practitioner and Educator whose work incorporates sound-based practices, nervous-system regulation, breath, body awareness and restorative experiences.
Her approach centers on helping people create space for regulation, awareness and reconnection through intentional sensory experiences.
About Ralph Morgan
Ralph Morgan joins Sound + Science as a guest educator, bringing a lifetime of education, professional experience and study to conversations surrounding sound, psychology, human behavior and quality of life.
A complete professional biography and educational background will be added shortly.
Upcoming Sound + Science Gatherings
Sound + Science is offered twice monthly.
Advance registration is recommended, as space is intentionally limited.
Participants are encouraged to bring a yoga mat, blanket, pillow and anything else needed to rest comfortably.
No previous experience with sound work, meditation or nervous-system practices is required.
A Different Way to Learn
We spend much of our lives trying to understand experiences before we allow ourselves to have them.
Sound + Science reverses that order.
First, you experience.
Then, you become curious.
Then, together, we begin asking why.
