Join the RVF for a post-harvest One Block Challenge™ Field Day at the Roth Estate caves at the Chalk Hill Estate vineyards. Focused on animal integration, the event is open to all who are curious to learn more about regenerative viticulture whether or not you currently integrate animals.
Our gracious hosts at Foley Family Farms include Kara Maraden and Brian Malone. In Chalk Hill’s One Block Challenge vineyard, we can share and compare our collective learning.
Guest speaker and grazier extraordinaire Robert Irwin of Kaos Sheep Outfit will answer your questions and share his experience replacing mowers with Australian Corriedale sheep.
The One Block Challenge™
The One Block Challenge™, developed by the Regenerative Viticulture Foundation and piloted in Paso Robles in February 2025, gives growers a low-risk, practical entry point into regenerative agriculture. Participants commit one vineyard block—or even a few rows—to trial selected regenerative practices for a single season. Each grower chooses from a regionally adapted menu that may include diverse cover crops, compost applications, removing herbicides, reducing tillage, and integrating livestock. Baseline and year-end soil assessments help participants understand the changes on their block and decide whether to expand these practices more widely.
The One Block Challenge is now active in California in Paso, Napa, Santa Barbara, Sonoma, and Temecula, and internationally in New Zealand, South Africa, Texas, and the UK!
