VAEFF Presents "Something is Wrong. Very wrong!" Screening and Q&AAbout this Event
"Something is Wrong. Very Wrong” is a program of oddities, films that reach beneath our skin and force us to reckon with the absurdity of modern life. These are films that do not seek to simply ask questions or make statements, rather, to poke and prod at our comfort until we begin to question ourselves. Prompting us to look past the obvious, the program represents the intricate and variable nature of evil in a world that resembles our own, urging us to contemplate our fears and their place amidst our ever-changing reality.

Program Lineup:
Intuative Cycles directed by Mickey Galvin
After signing a lucrative contract with a controversial period tracking app, influencer Sadie begins to unravel. Confined to her apartment to film her sponsorship, she is tortured by the ripple effects of her platform, unsure if she’s empowering women or putting them at risk.
On Parenting and Travel directed by Tenley Eakin Raj
A confessional short documentary in which a mother, alone with her children at the beach for two weeks, speaks directly to camera about the invisible weight of parenthood.
A Crack in the Screen directed by Johanormous
Over-rationalization built the interface. The interface replaced pre-rational projection surfaces, demons, gods, floods, fire, with monetized simulations of connection. AI is now completing that process by automating language itself. This film is what remains on the other side.
Gluttony (Full) directed by Nenad Katic, Chloe Charles
There is a woman who carries her emptiness visibly: a literal hole in her chest where the heart should be. Inside it flickers a restless interior world—static, memory, noise, longing—something raw and bottomless. Her gluttony is a desperate form of self-soothing—an attempt to quiet the unbearable silence beneath modern life.
Bomb directed by Inés Corina
The story of an exploded second.
Subhuman Services directed by Dan Schneidkraut
Reflections on personal and systemic failures woven into a thorough archival analysis and interpretation of The Department of Human Services hold music.
In the Background: The Curtain directed by Erin Naifeh
As a film crew records a dinner party scene, a mystery emerges. From within it, a narrator asks the audience to step away from the screen and return only when prompted.
