Staged reading of SNAZZY by Joe Staton at the RAT NYC. The story of how face-painting became a cultural phenomenon in 1980s England.
About this Event

A vibrant, big-hearted new play inspired by A Snazzy Tale by Lauren Staton, SNAZZY follows Lauren and Paul as a scrappy idea at Butlins explodes into a face-painting phenomenon. It’s a story about love, hustle, and the magic that starts with a child’s smile—told through chorus, music cues, and the interplay of Older Lauren narrating her younger self. By turns funny, cheeky, and quietly devastating, SNAZZY is a love letter to risk-takers, working mums, and anyone who’s ever built something from nothing.

What to Expect

  • Staged reading with professional actors (scripts in hand)
  • Approx. 1 hr 45 min reading with a brief pause
  • Post-reading talkback with the creative team

Themes & Vibe
1980s holiday-camp glitter meets entrepreneurial grit: queues of kids, improvised kiosks, and a romance that sneaks up on you—until it doesn’t. Think memory-play energy with a Greek-chorus wink.
