About this Event
III-V materials for Infrared Resonant Photonic and Energy Harvesting Devices
Speaker: Abhilasha Kamboj
Abstract: Infrared section of light provides opportunities for applications in free space communication, thermal imaging, gas sensing, energy harvesting, biomedical sensing & communication. However, full realization of their potential in respective applications is limited either by limited material options, their performances, high temperature operability and/or challenges with their heterogenous integration into the systems for commercial/fundamental applications. This talk will address some of these challenges by employing III-V materials into monolithically integrated resonant structures and energy harvesting devices. Specifically, first part of talk will discuss room-temperature mid-infrared guided-mode resonant photodetectors and LEDs while the second one will move onto low-irradiance photovoltaic arrays for powering miniaturized autonomous electronic systems. In each part, fabrication is discussed with an eventual goal for their heterogenous integration into respective applications.
About the Speaker: Abhilasha Kamboj is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Pennsylvania, currently working on developing and investigating fabrication and encapsulation strategies for bio-implantable microelectronics. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin where she primarily designed, fabricated and characterized mid-infrared enhanced photodetectors and LEDs to achieve high-operating temperatures. Her previous work atthe University of Delaware includes building monolithically-integrated microscale GaAs photovoltaic arrays for energy harvesting.
Behind the Scenes: A Primer on Maintaining Cleanroom Systems
Speaker: Travis J Venables
Abstract: It takes a lot to maintain a cleanroom! In this talk I will walk you through my day-day schedule as the Lead Cleanroom Equipment Engineer and give a behind the scenes look at how the operations team goes about keeping the clean room running smooth. In addition, I will advertise a few cool projects done with the dicing saw, and also promote the newest packaging tool, the Tresky flip chip bonder.
About the Speaker: Travis is the Lead Cleanroom Equipment Engineer at University of Pennsylvania's Quattrone Nanofabrocation Facility. He is skilled in troubleshooting/fixing vacuum systems, deposition tools, and etching equipment. Travis also performs training and support for Backend Packaging Operations. Travis graduated from Ursinus College in 2019 with a Bachelor's degree in Biology and Environmental Science
