The Lincoln Theatre presents the silent German Expressionist film Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror with a live score featuring Lori Goldston and Corey J. Brewer!Acclaimed cellist and composer Lori Goldston -- who toured with Nirvana and appears on their MTV Unplugged album, and who has collaborated with David Byrne, Earth, Cat Power, Terry Riley, Lynn Shelton, and many more -- joins forces with musician Corey J. Brewer (Wurlitzer, zither, nightmare sounds), whose score for The Shining Forwards and Backwards helped launch Portland Art Museum's Tomorrow Theater in 2023.
Together they re-imagine the earliest surviving adaptation of Bram Stoker's novel Dracula -- a milestone in horror cinema that still haunts over a century later.
The enigmatic actor Max Schreck portrays Count Orlok, a vampire who preys on the wife (Greta Schröder) of his estate agent (Gustav von Wangenheim) and brings the plague to their town.
One of the silent era's most influential masterpieces, Nosferatu's eerie, gothic feel -- and a chilling performance from Max Schreck as the vampire -- set the template for thousands of horror films that followed. Director Murnau's striking blend of Expressionist imagery and eerie real-world locations makes the film itself seem infected by the supernatural.
