About this Event
You are welcome to join our new Silent Book Club, a space for you to prioritise reading for pleasure in the company of other like-minded readers. There’s no assigned book, and no pressure to speak up in a discussion. Just help yourself to a drink, find a comfy chair and read any book of your choice in the quiet company of others. After the reading hour you have the option stay and chat with the group about what you’ve read.
This session will give you the opportunity to:
· Enjoy a quiet atmosphere for uninterrupted reading time. No getting distracted by the jobs that are waiting for you to do at home!
· Connect with other people who love books in a relaxed atmosphere.
· Discover the wellbeing effects of reading for pleasure which include reduced stress and improved concentration.
· Discover more about Trafford Libraries' services
Unsure what to read? No problem! You can bring a book from home that you’ve been meaning to read for ages or browse from hundreds available at the library.
Need help choosing or obtaining the book you want? Send a message to [email protected] or speak to a member of library staff and we will support you to find a great read!
What to expect on the night:
Doors open at 5:00pm
To ensure that the library is quiet for the hour of silent reading the event will take place when the library is closed to the public. Please therefore arrive at the side entrance on Tatton Place where the library staff will meet you and welcome you in.
Please then help yourself to a free drink and a comfy chair. You can browse the books on display. Library staff will be on hand to help you choose a book or check if a title you’d like is available.
5:15pm – 6:15pm
Quiet reading will commence at 5:15pm where you can enjoy the calm atmosphere and lose yourself in a book.
6:15 – 6:45pm
Optional group discussion. If you would like to stay and share about what you have been reading with others, please feel free to do so. You may find a great recommendation for next time!
Free light refreshments will be provided.
This session is for over 18s only.
If you would like to attend and prefer to listen to audiobooks, you would be very welcome to do so. Please ensure that you bring your own headphones if this is the case, and that the volume is at a level that would not disturb others.
If you have any accessibility requirements in order to attend, or have any further enquiries, we would welcome hearing from you. Please email [email protected] or speak to a member of library staff who can pass a message to the organisers.
This is a pilot session and if successful we will add more meetings.
