About this Event
Join artist Quasimah Boston for a three-hour, hands-on shekere-making workshop exploring cultural tradition, creativity, and rhythm.
Participants will create their own beaded gourd percussion instrument, explore how different materials and movement shape sound, and learn a basic rhythm to play together.
Participants will leave with:
- One assembled and decorated shekere to take home
- An introduction to the cultural context of the instrument
- An understanding of how materials affect sound
- At least one basic rhythm to practice and share
No previous music or instrument-making experience is needed.
Registration
The $45 registration fee covers materials and holds your space for the workshop. Because materials are being purchased and prepared for each participant, advance registration is required.
Come make. Come learn. Come create rhythm in community.
