Ayana Clark is a 29-year-old educator and community advocate. She is a full-time mom to her two sons, Ja’Mal & JaDyn. Ayana is the Assistant Chief of Staff for the Committee on Education & Child Development under the leadership of 20th Ward Alderwoman Jeanette Taylor. Her passion for service came from watching her community struggle as a child and intensified following the shooting of Laquan McDonald. At that moment, she realized that authentic revolution is found in our ability to demand change collectively. She earned her Bachelors in Broadcasting and a Masters in Communication from Purdue University Northwest. She was inducted into the National Society for Leadership and Success in 2016. She earned the title Most Outstanding Graduate Student 2019 for her innovative research on media and minority movements. At Purdue, she served as the Show producer for The Roundtable Perspective, which airs on Lakeshore PBS. Not only was she the first Black woman to hold the position, but she was the first woman of color, period, and became known for highlighting the voices of marginalized groups. Her collaboration with other students earned the show four international Excellence awards for outstanding production. She is an alumnus of the 2019 Obama Foundation Community Leadership Corp, the 2022 Young Invincibles Young Advocates program, and the 2022 Congressional Black Caucus Political Boot Camp, where she collaborated with other young emerging leaders to design and implement projects that tackle pressing social issues. A former candidate for Alderman, Ayana used her experience to launch her business and non-profit “Politics is Ghetto” to promote civic engagement and train people of all ages how to navigate government. She is a Junior Board Member for the Building Brighter Futures Foundation, 1st Congressional District Director for Chicago Young Democrates, and organizer with the Workers Center for Racial Justice. She serves as a mentor through ladies of virtue and is a member of the Order of the Eastern Stars, St. John Grand Lodge, Harmony Chapter 7. She spends her free time organizing and volunteering in underserved communities. Clark brings a unique perspective to issues impacting people of color and utilizes her media knowledge to bring voice to those who have been silenced. Her commitment to advancing Black communities earned her recognition as Fox 32 Chicago’s Voice of Change in 2020 & recognition as 40 under 40 by the Black Woman’s Professionals League.
