LOVE, JOY AND POWER: TOOLS FOR LIBERATION–A feature-length documentary film about Black Voters Matter, Directed by Daresha Kyi
Follow the founders of Black Voters Matter Fund, Cliff Albright, April England Albright and LaTosha Brown, as they travel to 13 cities empowering African American voters, especially in the rural south, to turn out in record-breaking numbers and flip Georgia from red to blue in the 2020 Presidential election. This intimate, behind-the-scenes look at galvanizing grassroots organizing also details the many dangerous threats they faced to do this vital work.
The story takes on heightened urgency in the face of powerful attempts at voter suppression in the run-up to the 2026 mid-terms. It sheds keen light on the work that still remains to be done for America to make good on its promise of democracy for all.

• Cliff Albright is a 2020 Soros Equality Fellow and co-founder of Black Voters Matter Fund (and BVM Capacity Building Institute), which builds community and organizational capacity related to Black voting power. BVM received national attention in 2017 when they helped mobilize Black voters during the U.S. Senate race between Doug Jones and Roy Moore. Since then, Cliff and the BVM team have traveled throughout thirteen primarily southern states in “The Blackest Bus in America” energizing voters and exposing voter suppression. He and his team recently played a critical role in the 2020 election cycle, including the historic Georgia runoff elections for U.S. Senate.
• LaTosha Brown is at the intersection of social justice, political empowerment, human development and the cultural arts one will find LaTosha Brown. As a catalyst for change, thought leader, and social strategist, her national and global efforts have been known to organize, inspire and catapult people into action—not just lip service—enabling them to build power and wealth for themselves and their community. —As the co-founder of the Black Voters Matter Fund and the BVM Capacity Building Institute, LaTosha is adamant about ensuring that all human beings have access to quality education, safety, security, peace, love, and happiness
• Shanique Rodríguez is Executive Director of Massachusetts Voter Table: a political, social, and reproductive justice activist who has dedicated nearly a decade to organizing in BIPOC communities across Massachusetts. In 2022, Shanique delivered a hard-fought win for the Fair Share Amendment campaign as the BIPOC Community Director. Prior to the Fair Share campaign, Shanique spent 4+ years at Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund of Massachusetts working on reproductive rights and justice issues in Western and Central MA as the Manager of Mobilization and BIPOC Organizing.
• Layanie Oscar (Moderator) is Director of Organizing for MassCreative, who brings her love for community and conversation to her organizing and advocacy work. She previously served as Field Manager for Massachusetts Voter Table, where she led voter education programming and helped statewide partners of the Democracy HUBS strategize and plan for ballot wins like the Work & Family Mobility Act, developed Youth Action and Advocacy Day, and much more.
