Shardlow was an important inland port in the 18th Century, near the junction of the Trent and Mersey canal with the rivers Trent and Derwent. More than 50 listed buildings remaining from that time around the Wharf and now it is a popular centre for leisure use of the canal and rivers.

Pubs and cafe suggestions:
The New Inn - proposed lunch stop.

Decent Marston’s Pedigree, other hand pulled beers. Good value pub food with excellent chips - definitely not pretending to be a gastro pub. The portions are generous - Nathan found the ‘Light Bites’ plenty for lunch if you want to be able to do anything afterwards.
Several other pubs in Shardlow:
The Old Crown Inn.
The Navigation
The Shakespear
The Dog & Duck
The Clock Warehouse - more of a restaurant.
In Aston on Trent:
White Hart inn - rave reviews on Trip Advisor

Notsa - cafe, deli, bar, shop- Second breakfast?

The walk passes the site of the ‘Aston Cursus’ a large (a mile long) neolithic feature.
