Know how to use a sewing machine? Want to take your skills to the next level? Join this class to make your first ever cozy quilt!About this Event
In this four-week class (October 7, 14, 21 and 28 from 6-9 pm), you'll make your very own throw-sized quilt. You'll learn skills including:
- cutting: how to use a rotary cutter, ruler and mat to cut precise shapes
- piecing: how to sew together your quilt top
- making a quilt "sandwich": put together the top, batting (soft middle part) and backing
- how to bind/finish your quilt.
This class is for people who feel comfortable operating a sewing machine.
I will provide the quilting pattern, tools and equipment, and a sewing machine (if you want to borrow one).
You bring:
For Week 1:
- 1 ¼ yards of quilting cotton in a “background print” (for big squares on the front)
- 8 × 1/8 yard of various quilting cotton prints (for small squares on the front - I recommend one solid colour so the quilt doesn’t look too “busy”)
- 1 spool of good quality all-purpose thread that blends in with your fabrics (i.e. Mettler or Guterman, no vintage or dollar store thread, please!)
For Week 3:
- 2 ½ yards of quilting cotton for back of quilt
- Package of batting for a throw size quilt (60×60”)
- 1 spool of good quality all-purpose thread that either blends in or contrasts with your fabrics, depending on the look you like (i.e. Mettler or Guterman, no vintage or dollar store thread, please!)
For Week 4:
- ½ yard of quilting cotton for binding
