About this Event
Bronx-born guitarist featured on Arturo O'Farrill's GRAMMY-nominated Mundoagua: Celebrating Carla Bley, previewing new music ahead of his debut EP with Alexandra Ridout on trumpet, Rafael Enciso on bass and Danno Petersen on drums.
Bronx-born guitarist and composer Sergio Ramirez (Arturo O'Farrill's GRAMMY-nominated Mundoagua: Celebrating Carla Bley, David Geffen Hall, SFJAZZ) brings his quartet to Chelsea Table + Stage for an early listen to the music behind his debut EP. He has performed alongside the Villalobos Brothers, Jorge Glem, Edmar Castaneda and the New World Symphony, and at Symphony Space, Joe's Pub, St. Ann's Warehouse and the Perelman Performing Arts Center.
Raised on rock and mariachi, then trained in classical guitar at the Manhattan School of Music and in jazz at Purchase College, he writes contemporary jazz with Afro-Caribbean and Afro-Mexican rhythm running through it, pairing original compositions with reimagined standards. Expect a set that moves from intimate and conversational to explosive and driving, built on interplay and arrangement.
