About this Event
Experience Japanese calligraphy and traditional brushwork.
This class is led by Kei Nishino from Fukuoka, Japan. She began studying calligraphy at the age of four and is also a certified Assistant Instructor in the Urasenke tradition of Japanese tea ceremony.
In this 90-minute workshop, you will experience the art of Japanese calligraphy while learning how to make sumi ink, use the brush, ink, and paper. After practicing traditional brush techniques, you will choose your kanji inspired by early winter such as 冬 (winter), 冴 ( crispness / clarity), 柊 (Japanese holly), 銀 (silver), 凪 (calm / stillness)—and create your own calligraphy artwork to take home.
Whether you are interested in Japanese language, Japanese culture, or simply looking for a creative new experience, this class is for you. No experience is needed, and all materials are included.
