People First NZ – Ngā Tāngata Tuatahi Monthly Local Group MeetingSpeaking up for ourselves
People First New Zealand supports self-advocacy for people with learning disabilities.
Our Local Groups are a safe, welcoming space where people can connect, learn, and have their voices heard.
People First monthly local meetings are friendly, accessible gatherings where people with learning disabilities come together to connect, share ideas, and have a voice.
At each meeting, members discuss what’s happening in their community, learn new information, make decisions about local activities, and support one another. These meetings help people build confidence, make friends, and be part of a strong, inclusive community.
We invite you to join our welcoming space where members and visitors can participate, learn, and speak up about the things that matter to them.
During each meeting, members can enjoy a relaxed and supportive environment with opportunities to:
• Catch up with other members and meet new people
• Take part in group discussions and activities
• Learn about current projects, local issues, and upcoming events
• Build confidence in speaking up and getting involved in the community
• Share ideas, ask questions, and contribute to the direction of the group
People First staff and Local Assistants will be there to support everyone throughout the session.
Who can attend
• People with learning disabilities
• Current People First members
• New people interested in joining
• Support workers, whānau, and allies (support people are welcome)
